There was a Special General Council meeting of the ODA held on June 25, 2026.
It was relating to the recently ratified Vice-President position for Dr. Jonathan Mayer. He had posted media comments that were divisive and racist and offended not only many ODA members but members of the public and federal government as well.
At the Special Meeting of General Council the vote was overwhelmingly to remove Dr. Mayer from office.
Drs. Nicolucci, Fendrich, Zereghar, Mangat, Schwartz, Orzech, Divanbeigi, among others, argued to “trust in the board” and its decision to continue to support Dr. Mayer as a divisive leader of 12,000 dentists in Ontario. They parroted the prepared statement read by President Leith.
The membership disagreed. Clearly the membership has lost trust in the board.
(Not all board members supported the ratification of Dr. Mayer. That several expected him to resign or at least step down pending a proper investigation, unlike what was actually done.)
The action of the Board to support the offending of our members, the public, and the government must be roundly condemned.
Questions need to be asked as to who gave them their advice and why they chose not to do the reasonable and obvious action. It was left up to the General Council to do what should have been done in the first place.
