The most qualified, thoughtful, and effective people should rise to positions of influence so the ODA can deliver the best possible results for dentists.
The Old ODA is a social club.
In a social club, personal friendships, alliances, and clique politics drive promotions. That means the wrong people rise, the best people are passed over, and dentists get poorer results.
Wowww! The CRACKED TOOTH says it all.
This post aptly summarizes what is wrong with the current leadership. Promotions within the organization are based on personal alliances and influence as opposed to MERIT and VISION. As an alternate councillor, I heard whispers at the last General Council meeting that sucking up to the CEO, who is not even a dentist, is the fastest way to gain favour. Unfortunately, I was not selected to represent my component society at the upcoming General Council meeting because our society executive has been influenced by the old brass running the board!
There is a name for this and it is NOT DEMOCRACY.
Many UNETHICAL techniques are being used to maintain the status quo which sadly benefits a few at the expense of the membership.
Unfortunately, collusion between the CEO and his in house legal counsel to plant questions among councillors, is one of the most shocking techniques being used to influence the VOTE at General Council and even more shocking is it is occurring with the full cooperation of David Stevenson: the CHAIR of General Council. Look for the memo posted in one of the articles here.
How is this even legal? Dr. Stevenson is a dentist and he should not betray General Council and the members like this. There is nothing more UNETHICAL than dentists working against what is good for the membership. When an organization picks self-preservation over what is best for the membership, we have a problem.
I am watching the next election with great concern for our profession’s FUTURE.
I hope council chooses NEW FACES to represent us at the board. Voting anyone who was on the board before is not going to lead to positive change. They had their chance to make a difference, now it’s time to let the MEMBERSHIP’s VOICE be heard. I hope councillors choose well and the vote doesn’t get RIGGED in such a corrupt system.
NEW VOICEs = CHANGE
so now with the ODA Elections two weeks away the “old Guard” under CEO Frank Bevilacqua are threatening candidates with lawsuits, asking good people to drop out, making calls to potential new faces to withdraw their names, and getting their favoured candidates some election exposure. Once again this corrupt board cares nothing about our younger dentists. Same old tactics. Same veiled threats. Same old self preservation. The only people that will be served with a law suit is this old board for their financial mismanagement.

Best ODA or Old ODA?
The Best ODA is a merit-based ODA.
The most qualified, thoughtful, and effective people should rise to positions of influence so the ODA can deliver the best possible results for dentists.

Let’s make the ODA the best it can be.
VOTE FOR THE BEST ODA.
Long live the ODA.
